The drawback of no defined maturity date for collective bond investments is being addressed by ETFs from Guggenheim Investments and Black Rock's Ishares, the latter being the most recently launched (
ft.com April 24th 2013). These ETFs combine the benefits of reducing risk through a portfolio of bonds with the certainty of a defined maturity date.
Whilst these are targetting the US market one an only hope that if these ETFs prove successful then we will see similar products aimed at European investors.
